                     Australian medical coding is a system for categorising medical services, treatments, and diagnoses for billing and reimbursement purposes. It is based on the Australian Classification of Health Interventions (ACHI) and the International Classification of Diseases (ICD-10-AM) (ACHI). In order to be billed and reimbursed, healthcare practitioners use codes to classify and record medical diagnoses and procedures. 

                 International Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems, Australian Modification (ICD 10 AM) used to classify diseases, injuries and related health problems. It is an alphanumeric classification and contains codes for diseases, signs and symptoms, abnormal findings social factors and more.

                 Australian Classification of Health Interventions (ACHI) used to classify surgeries, therapies and health interventions. ACS or Australian Coding Standards or ACS are the guidelines designed for nationally consistent application of ICD 10 AM and ACHI.
